I adopted Biscut, a miniature American Eskimo, (shown above at 14 years old) from the animal shelter in Hawaii in 1990. She was approximately 4 years old at that time, and a very happy and lively dog. When I first saw her, she was dancing on her back legs begging for a milk bone, thus she got the her name BISCUT.

When she arrived home with us the first day, she experienced a convulsive attack in the first hour. She had another one within the hour and another about 2 hours later.

Throughout that night, she experienced about seven "attacks" that appeared to me to be Petit mal as she DID NOT discharge any bodily fluids. I was very concerned because the shelter had not mentioned anything at all about her having a problem. At that time I didn't think to consider the additional series of vaccinations that she got, along with her being spayed or the increased stress of coming to a new home.

We took her to our Veterinarian the next day and he suggested medication for the convulsions, but he also said that the medication could cause side effects and possible kidney or liver problems. Since her convulsions were Petit and she had not shown a recent history, I chose not to use the drugs at that time because of the potential of long-term side-effects.

Her Symptoms
In advance of a seizure, Biscut would always seek someplace safe like in a corner, or under a table; and then her eyes would glaze over, her panting increased and she drooled from the mouth. Her body and legs would stiffen but she would not shake. I would simply hold her and stroke her neck and talk to her to let her know she was safe and with someone. I really believe this helped her a great deal; however, it always pained me deeply to see her go through these episodes. From that point forward, Biscut averaged 2 to 3 episodes per month.

Besides that, Biscut shed her coat all the time. I mean she left hair everywhere, and it never stopped coming off her! As much as she shed, you would have thought she would have been bald. It was just terrible; I couldn't even pick her up or hold her without getting white hair all over me. Just pulling slightly on her coat would release dozens of hair strands.

In the 90's we began working in the health food business. It was during this time that we started to develop a fabulous live food supplement NZYMES® Antioxidant Treats. SPECIAL NOTE:
Biscut passed over the Rainbow Bridge in July of 2005, at the ripe old age of 19 ½. She had a very long, happy and healthy life. Honestly, I consider her to be the main reason why I decided to go forward with our pet nutrition business. It is because of her so many others have been helped. I still miss her very much.
